Legacy Application Systems Empowered Replacement Project    Spring 2005
Financial Information System update, by Ron Semarge
FIS Goes Live July 2005
The Engines have been assembled and they sit idling waiting for the Engineers to begin their tasks. The individual passenger cars have been placed in order, prepped, and are awaiting the customers to begin using them. We are ready for the move from the older, more rigid, system to our new, more flexible, FIS.

Hoping I have your attention, this is an update on where we are, and what is coming up very soon as we approach the July 2005 ‘Go-Live’ date for the Financial Information System (FIS).

All of the hardware has been received and installed. Many IT Units have been working around the clock to get everything up and running. Testing of all the equipment is required as they strive to meet the high-availability goals established for FIS. Members of the Controller's Office, Budget Office and Accounting staff have continued to test and enhance procedures and processes for the various FIS modules, while the technical team works on the generation of end-user reports.

End-User Hands-on Training
Hands-on training begins on May 3rd and all sessions will be conducted in Fairchild 009. Almost 80 percent of those who responded to the training needs survey requested both eForms and Reports training. Therefore, the majority of the hands-on sessions are one-day sessions that will cover both topics. We have scheduled a few half-day sessions to accommodate those that only required training for one of the topics.

REMEMBER: If you need to view month-end or on-line reports, or plan to view financial data on-line, you MUST attend the FIS Reports training. Access to FIS on-line will NOT be granted until such is done.

The full day training sessions will begin at 8:30am. We will cover the Multi-Segment Account Structure and eForms in the morning, followed by the FIS access (account) process, and on-line reports after the lunch break. Half-day sessions will consist of the same content with the exception that the half-day reports section will also cover the Multi-Segment Account Structure as well.

We will use online registration for all hands-on training sessions.
Visit the FIS training calendar to enroll. Register early for the best chance to get the dates/time you want.
